Surface, Deep and Dark Web. What lies beneath?

Course Author:Skilla
Course Duration:87

Hello! My name is Marco Baldi and I am a Telecommunications professor specialising in Cybersecurity or, in other words, the security of data and digital systems. We live in a world which is increasingly connected and full of opportunities, but it is important to understand the risks concealed behind digital media. Awareness is the first line of defence. Have you ever asked yourself where data stolen by cyber criminals ends up? It is collected, exchanged and sold in hidden places on the web… During this course, we will talk about the World Wide Web (the Internet we all know) but also about the darker places of the Internet. Indeed, the Internet seems infinite, but what not everyone knows is that this is just a fraction of what is concealed in cyberspace. The Internet we all know and browse is known as the “Surface Web”, in other words, that part indexed by search engines and easily accessible to everyone. However, there is also a “Deep Web” and a “Dark Web”, where resources are not indexed and may also be encrypted. During this course, you will learn about what this means, the associated technologies and what they are used for, how they have evolved over time, and some practical examples. The guidelines you will encounter will help you protect your personal and business data, making your digital life, and more besides, much safer.
