Hello! My name is Marco Baldi and I am a Telecommunications professor specialising in Cybersecurity or, in other words, the security of data and digital systems. We live in a world which is increasingly connected and full of opportunities, but it is important to understand the risks concealed behind digital media. Awareness is the first line of defence. During this course, you will learn about phone hacking, a type of cyber attack that targets the mobile devices we use every day, like smartphones and tablets. Its objective is to compromise security and steal sensitive data and information concerning the devices’ owners and their contacts. Phone hacking is a kind of surveillance, and is therefore an illegal practice in most countries, unless it is performed as lawful interception by a government agency. The risk of exposing ourselves to phone hacking increases when we use mobile devices for both private and business purposes, mixing data and logins! Home and work spheres overlap, for instance, when you check your work email on your personal smartphone. During this course, you will learn about how these attacks take place, how this practice has evolved over time, and some practical examples. Of course, you will also find out how to defend yourself! The guidelines you will encounter will help you protect your personal and business data, making your digital life, and more besides, much safer.
