They said that for security reasons my current account had been blocked. To reactivate it, they wanted me to give them my access codes and\u2026 PT: \u2026And what did you do? AL: At first, I wanted to carry on, but then I decided not to: the request seemed strange and it wasn&#8217;t the usual sender name\u2026 PT: Have you ever heard of \u201cphishing\u201d?  PT: The term phishing means a computer scam to obtain confidential data like passwords, codes, pins, credit card numbers from the victim. The scammer&#8217;s ultimate goal is to extort money or even steal the victim&#8217;s identity. AL: With e-mails like the one I received? PT: Precisely! With e-mails, but that\u2019s not all! Through texts, chats and social media, victims are invited to provide their personal data, or enter a link where there\u2019s a form to fill in. AL: Then what happens? PT: With the stolen data, crimes can be committed at the expense of the victim, such as purchases with their cards, withdrawals from their bank account, access to their social networks. AL: That&#8217;s really dangerous! How can I protect myself? PT: You have to train yourself! In this training session you\u2019ll learn to recognise a phishing e-mail. You\u2019ll find out about the clues that make you say \u201cAh, this is phishing!\u201d and what to do to protect yourself.
